Family Literacy
Family literacy is the way parents, children and extended family members use literacy at home, at work, at school and in their community life, according to the National Center for Literacy (NCFL).

Family literacy programs address literacy across generations, with the main focus on parents as the first and most important teachers of their children. These programs also encourage interactive literacy activities between parents and their children; literacy training that leads to financial stability and age-appropriate education to prepare children for success in school, according to the NCFL.

Project Learn is dedicated to improving family literacy through a variety of initiatives, including attending community events and hosting family literacy programs.

Family literacy funders include: The Blakney Family Foundation, Target Stores, and the Fraternal Eagles of Cuyahoga Falls.

Family Literacy Programming

Project Learn offers a workshop called "Planting a Rainbow," which teaches parents and caregivers ways to make the home a primary learning environment and how to encourage literacy development in their children.

Cavaliers Reading & Learning Center

Project Learn received a $40,000 gift when the Cleveland Cavaliers and The Gund Arena Company opened the Cavaliers Reading & Learning Center in the new Main Library. Cavaliers teammates Drew Gooden, Lebron James, Luke Jackson and Eric Snow, along with assistant coach Steven Silas, participated in a press conference, ribbon cutting and Reading Time-Out celebration to dedicate the facility. The renovation of Project Learn turned its space into a freshly painted wine and gold center that features a technology lab with eight new computers and desks, a reading room with custom-built study carrels and bookshelves stocked with more than 1,000 new books. The Reading & Learning Center is part of the NBA’s Read to Achieve program.
