Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer tutors are what make Project Learn possible. Becoming a volunteer tutor is a wonderful way to give back to the community. Our tutors say they bond with their students and that teaching someone to read and helping to improve someone’s life is one of the most gratifying experiences they’ve ever had.

Who can be a tutor?

Project Learn tutors are college students, homemakers, working people, professionals and retirees.

You can be a tutor if you are…
  • 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED

Tutors must…

  • Commit a minimum of three hours a week to teaching time
  • Become trained and certified in a 9-hour workshop that teaches the Laubach tutoring method, a phonics-based program.

Each tutor is matched with a students based on location and available times. Tutors and students meet at Project Learn or any public building in Summit County, including libraries, church halls and community centers. Currently, 175 student/tutor pairs meet.
