Project Learn has received a grant from the United Way of Summit County for a local GED test fee waivers ($40). Students are eligible to earn a fee waiver if they take their practice GED exam at Project Learn. Students must obtain the following practice test scores: 450 minimum in each subject areas and an overall average of 500. If a student qualifies for the test fee waiver, they will receive additional information in their practice test results letter.
Please note: The minimum scores to pass the official GED test remains 410 in each subject area and 450 overall average; however, to earn the local fee waiver, practice test scores must meet the higher requirements.
Instructions for applying for the Official GED Test online and requesting a fee reimbursement:
1. Open another window of your Internet Browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.
2. Type http://www.ode.state.oh.us in the address field.
3. This takes you to the Ohio Department of Education's website.
4. Click on School Options located at the top of your screen in red.
5. Scroll down and click on General Educational Development (GED) (located on the left hand side of the screen).
6. Scroll down and click on GED Web Application Sign In (located in red on the right hand side of the screen).
7. In order to complete the GED application online, you need to create a SAFE Account. A SAFE Account allows you to complete the GED application, check the status of your application, check the results of your GED test, and also use other Ohio Department of Education (ODE) services online. In order to create a SAFE Account you must have a valid email address. If you do not have a valid email address, you can get one free by signing up for Yahoo or Gmail.
8. On the Ohio Department of Education’s website under GED Web Application Sign In, click the appropriate link in the second paragraph to begin creating your SAFE account. Follow the directions provided by the Ohio Department of Education’s website to finish completing your SAFE account. After completing, the Ohio Department of Education will send a confirmation to your email address with your SAFE account log in and password. (Write your SAFE account name and password in a secure location. You will need this information to check the status of your application approval and also to check your scores once your GED test has been scored.)
9. Once your SAFE account has been created, return to the GED Web Application Sign In webpage and sign into your SAFE Account by clicking on the link provided in the first paragraph. Enter your account name and password, click on GED and click on application (located in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen) to begin the application process.
10. Follow the directions provided by the Ohio Department of Education’s website to complete the GED test application.
11. If you are eligible for the local fee reimbursement, please contact Rick McIntosh or Marquita Mitchell at Project Learn at 330-434-9461 to process your fee reimbursement process. You will pay for the test initially and be reimbursed by check from Project Learn upon verification of test completion.
12. To pay for the test, please click on the pay for test option from the menu on the left hand side of the screen when you are on the GED menu screen. The GED test is payable by credit card or money order. If submitting payment by credit card, enter your credit card information or click pay later and send a money order payable to Ohio Testing Services of $40. Along with the payment, mail a copy of your GED application to:

13. Once the Ohio Department of Education has received payment and approved your application, you will be eligible to schedule for the official GED test. You will need to check back using your SAFE account for application approval or call the local test center to see if your application has been approved. The Ohio Department of Education WILL NOT notify you. Check the Ohio Department of Education's website, under GED for approved Ohio GED testing centers. Allow 1-2 business days for application approval with a credit card transaction and 7-10 business days for application approval with a money order.
